The variant of COVID-19 that was first emerging in India is now getting transmitted all across the UK after three recent cases were detected, which were not linked with travelling. 55 new infections with the COVID-19 strain have been traced all over the country, while has been India added to “red list” of Britain as of Friday morning. Health minister of Northern Ireland has warned citizens from the Republic who are constantly traveling North for haircuts or hospitality after the Covid-19 rules ease later this week that they would break the law in their own jurisdiction. In an interview with Irish Times, Robin Swann said that travel bans are still in place for the Republic of Ireland and people coming to the North to access any services would be considered as non-essential travel outside a county boundary as per my understanding and my reading of their regulations.

UK government on Monday imposed their strictest travel curbs on India after constantly rising number of coronavirus cases there. The decision came an hour after Prime Minister Boris Johnson called off his trip to New Delhi. Secretary of Health Matt Hancock confirmed the move in the House of Commons as almost 103 cases of the so-called Indian variant had been just identified in the UK, out of which the vast majority have been linked to the international travel. Samples of that variant have been analyzed to check whether the new variant has any concerning characteristics, such as greater transmissibility or resistance to vaccines. He added in his statement that India is being added to Britain’s “red list” of countries, with all arrivals from India will be banned except for UK or Irish nationals, who will need to stay in a government-approved quarantine hotel for 10 days when they return.
